2017/2018 Sessions

We offer two series for Adult Faith Nourishment during the year.  The Fall series is usually more head knowledge while the Lenten series is more heart knowledge and reflection.

Our Fall 2017 series is “The Pivotal Players” DVD series by Bishop Robert Barron. Many have studied the Catholicism series by Bishop Barron a few years ago.

“The Pivotal Players” is Six (6) Sessions begins week of September 18, 2017 with DVDs by Bishop Robert Barron. Sessions are 1.5 hour in length and the fee for the six session is $10 per participant to cover the cost of the DVD’s and leaders guides.

This is a user friendly series ~ no homework ~

We view the DVD, chat about what we heard/seen and how it may relate to us.

During this series we’ll discover the figures who shaped the Church/Catholicism and changed the world. We’ll hear about saints, artists, mystics and scholars: St. Francis of Assisi, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. John Henry Newman, St. Catherine of Siena, G.K. Chesterton and Michelangelo.

Group sessions are scheduled for Monday 9 a.m., Wednesday 9:30 a.m, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 6:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. group. We may have a Tuesday @ 6:30 p.m. group if numbers warrant it.

Registration will begin week of August 21. Fee is due at first session.

Lenten 2018 Sessions:  We will use Disciples On The Journey year B cycle.

Adults seeking sacrament of Confirmation:  please call Sr. Mary Potter, 619-596-3282 for information on sessions.  We usually do Thursdays but will do our best to accommodate your schedule.

Been Away ~ Welcome Home

We welcome adults who have been away from church practice. We are available to address your concerns or help you seek answers for your questions.

We also invite you to listen to Catholic Radio while in your car on AM1000 or check out www.CatholicsComeHome.. Please call so that we can set up a session or two for a chat and feel free to invite family/friends who may be interested.

Confirmation ~  if you are an adult seeking the Sacrament of Confirmation, please contact us to prepare and register for the sacrament.

Inquiry Sessions 

We depend on every member of the parish to spread the word to people you think may be interested in knowing more about the Catholic faith or in becoming Catholic.  We gather on Thursdays 7 to 8:45 p.m. in the Cunnane Parish Center.

Catechists

Catechetical Day at Guardian Angels is Saturday, September 9, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Fr. Andre will be the presenter on “Living as Missionary Disciples”.  This is the theme the the United States Bishops have chosen for us Catholics during 2017-2018.

Catechetical Sunday is September 17 with commissioning at 10 a.m. Mass.

 Bible Study

If you need a bible … we have New American Bible available for $10 (paperback). We have Catechisms of Catholic Church (CCC) on sale for $25.   During the year we hope to have an 8 week Introduction to the Bible.  We are planning on Wednesdays, 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Social Hall.  Watch out for more details in the parish bulletin. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A) for adults who are interested in knowing more about the Catholic Faith or in becoming Catholic is offered on Thursdays 7 to 8:45 p.m. We do our best to accommodate inquirers who have a schedule conflict for Thursdays by arranging with their sponsors and some team members to facilitate their initiation process. RCIA sessions are on Thursdays. Please call us for a brief chat before attending and visit RCIA section on website.

Bereavement Sessions for adults who have lost loved ones within the past five years are offered several times per year. We meet on first Saturday of the month in the Conference Room from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. September through June.  No meetings in July or August. Some of the group gather for lunch at a local restaurant about once a month.  Next Sessions Saturday, Jan 2, 2018 and February 6, 2018

Centering Prayer Group meets on Fridays at 7 p.m. in the Conference Room.  For more information please contact Kathy DiFede 619-749-4141 

Retreat for the women of our parish is usually scheduled for end of January  each year at Prince of Peace Abbey, Oceanside. Registration forms are available on the counter top during October.  Fee: $205, with $50 deposit by end of October. For more information see the parish bulletin or contact 

Parish Retreat is during Lent 2018 scheduled for Friday p.m.  and Saturday, March 2 & 3, 2018 . Fee is $20 and includes Friday supper, Saturday breakfast and lunch. More details re theme and speaker will be published in the bulletin/website a few weeks ahead of time..

The best way to grow strong in the faith is to share it with others.  So check to see about the possibility of being a catechist or assistant catechist with Religious Education, a sponsor with RCIA  or Facilitator with Adult Faith Formation.  You will find many opportunities to grow in your faith and to share your faith. All who work with children are background checked. Also you have opportunities to attend reflection day/s and Diocesan courses as well as the annual Religious Education Congress in Anaheim. Guess Who Is Coming to Dinner is a social gathering for adult parishioners at a parishioner’s home. It is held on the second Saturday of the following months; January, March, May, July, September, and November. This is a fun and relaxing way to met other parishioners. Lay Pastors meet at 9 a.m. on the second Saturday of the month. Lay pastors contact parishioners on our parish mailing list several times during the year to see if they have concerns/needs that the parish can help with. Estudiar La Biblia Spanish Prayer/Bible Study group meets on Juevas 6:30 p.m.  ~ invitamos a todos los de habla espanol a estudiar la biblia, cantar y participar. Spanish group for parents who have children in Religious Education is on Tuesdays 6:30 to 7:40 p.m. in the Parish Center.

From time to time we have speakers/presentations for R.E. in the Parish Center and it is open to all parishioners.

Advent Choral Groups: On the first Sunday in December Santee Christian Churches gather to sing Advent/Christmas songs in the Parish Center. For more information please contact Pete Callaway 619-449-4171 or Sandy Murphy 619-449-4069.

Parish Library, many adults enjoy study/meditation at their own pace, so we have a library of good spiritual books available in the Conference Room. The room is accessible on Sunday a.m. from inside the parish center, just enter the first door on your left down he hallway by the stage.
